News and Information
Three classic diesels have been moved from Winslow Jct., NJ to Scranton, PA. They are the former Lehigh Valley C-420 # 414. The "B" unit that is still painted in the CNJ orange and blue colors and a former Long Island Alco FA cab unit. All three were moved together in a special move by Norfolk Southern to Slateford Jct. and then by the Delaware-Lackawanna to Scranton. They will join a growing collection of historic diesels at Steamtown. The "B" will no doubt be painted to match the two "A" units in Lackawanna colors. The LV unit needs some mechanical work, but I would suspect the D-L may one day use it in freight service with their own fleet of Alco's. I personally hope the FA unit is painted up into Lehigh & New England colors and displayed with the LNE caboose already there. The engine and pretty much everything inside was removed years ago.
NJ Transit has started to use the former Amtrak GE units on the Raritan Valley line. This marks the first time GE power has been used in regular commuter service on the former CNJ line. The CNJ originally used Fairbanks-Morse units, Alco RS-3's and GP-7's before getting the GP40P's in 1968. Neither Conrail nor NJT to date had run GE units to Raritan prior to this. They are numbered in the 4800 series.

9000 numbers.
